H1N1 and The Digital Office
A year ago The Bridge Network found out about CleanKeys, a Canadian company that specializes in infection-control keyboards for the medical industry. We liked their product so much we felt we had to make it available to our clients. As a distributor of CleanKeys, we have had the pleasure of implementing it into several offices and have gotten great feedback. You can read my review of the keyboard on our website.

The Cleankeys smooth glass surface is easily disinfected.
Everyone that's seen the keyboard loves it. Not only does it look cool, but the keyboard works exceptionally well for a very smart and very simple idea. So, why isn't it in every operatory? Well, I would be the first to suggest that there isn't one perfect product for everyone. It also costs more than your typical keyboard. Here is where we must look at up-front costs vs total costs.
Consider the True Cost
If you're serious about infection control you should be using some sort of disposable barrier on top of your keyboard anyway. After looking around, I came across some disposable barriers that cost roughly $1 each. In some cases these barriers cost a lot more. By my calculations, and I am being conservative in my estimations, after one day of seeing patients, your standard keyboard could suddenly become quite costly.
